What is Brexit

Brexit means the process of leaving the European Union by Great Britain.

In June 2016, a referendum that was not binding for the British government took place, where 72.2% of eligible voters casted their vote, 51.89% of whom voted in favour of leaving the European Union by the United Kingdom.

On 24 January 2017, the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom issued a judgment stating that the process of UK withdrawal from the European Union could be initiated after the prior consent of the British Parliament. At the same time, the Courtruled that the government was not required to obtain the consent of the Scottish Parliament, the Welsh National Assembly and the Northern Ireland Assembly.
